Before you open the package, let me tell you something about it.
In 1977, my husband was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes...insulin dependent. That was twenty-five years ago, and he is now experiencing some of the long-term complications of the disease.
He recently lost both legs, has neuropathy, retinopathy, and is battling high blood pressure and the spectre of
kidney damage.
I'm not telling you this to garner sympathy, because we do just fine with the hand we've been dealt and have no complaints to register. But so much has been discovered in the last few
decades that many of these complications can now be avoided for a longer time...and with new technologies and research findings, the odds get better for an available, affordable cure.
We continue to push for a cure, because management is a burden, and it cannot be perfect. But it would be great to see that day while still in reasonably good health, and management is still the best tool to get us there.
Early intervention is soimportant if Diabetes is to be managed effectively. Please...take a minute to open the package. Spend some time with it, and pass
it along to friends and loved ones. If you don't think you can become diabetic, think again. You can. Anyone can. But Diabetes can be fought. The earlier, the better. Don't allow fear
or apathy to keep you from living your life to the fullest potential. Work for a cure...fight for control.
By the way...my Other Half still dances as well with his artificial legs as he did with his natural ones. Pity, really...we were sort of hoping for an improvement. : >
